Antiques By Design - Victorian Quarter Cut Oak Carved Gun Cabinet

Victorian Quarter Cut Oak Carved Gun Cabinet

Victorian quarter cut Oak carved gun cabinet. The cabinet is in beautiful refinished condition. This cabinet is quite tall with a single glazed door over two doors. The very top is finished with a deep crown having large gallouche carved border and what looks like a carved family crest in the center. Above the door is a C scroll and foliate carved panel with carved pheasants or quail on panels on either side. There are also carved panels of Grecian key motif that run down either side of the glass on the door. We have a skeleton key for the doors on this cabinet. Inside the back has a green felt lining and there are cut-outs on a rail in the top for up to 11 guns and then slots in the bottom to support the guns.  The bottom of the cabinet has two panel doors which are finished with great carvings of the hunter’s catch tied up. The left hand door has the original brass locking pins on the top and bottom. These two doors open to reveal a large open cupboard with a large fixed shelf. The bottom apron flares out and is gallouche carved in the same manner as the crown and set on bobbin turned foot. These gun cabinets are not available often and this is a great example
