Lions & Northwind Carved Victorian Oak Library Table / Desk
Victorian Lions & Northwind carved quartered Oak library table or desk. This stunning desk is in refinished condition and the carving throughout is magnificent. The top was finished out of choice old growth quarter swan Oak and has a wide inset border of carved shells on the corners and acanthus foliage. The top is also finished with Egg & Tongue carved edge and the corners are done in a 45-degree angle finished under with floral carved block over the tables legs. Which are wonderfully carved standing open mouth Lions having carved breast plate under and at the ankle upturned hair above the carved paw foot. The library table is fitted with two drawers on the front of the desk. These drawer fronts are crisply carved with acanthus foliage and magnificent carved Northwind face pulls. The apron or table skirt is finished with a gadroon carved bottom edge on all sides and there are large acanthus scroll carved corbel brackets on either side of each leg set under the aprons. The table has a lower shelf under which joins to the lower part of the legs and the shelf has gadroon carved edges
